The Wilderness Pursuit
The Wilderness Pursuit

I am a writer.

My Dad wanted me to be a baseball player, I wanted to be a hunter- and more than that; a writer. Instead of pictures of Ken Griffey Jr. or Derek Jeter pinned to my wall I had photos of Fred Bear. A book by Ernest Hemingway was usually in my backpack. There wasn’t much left of Michigan where I grew up that still felt truly wild, but whatever was left I wanted to find and soak into my soul. A campfire and a wall tent in November was my favorite place in the world. I left Michigan for Montana to find more of that sort of thing, and to create more stories to tell around that campfire.

wild places harden you.

Mountains, deserts, canyons, tundra’s, and woodlands.  We venture into them as clay and leave as stone.  To me, a wilderness pursuit means traveling beyond the unknown, both on the landscape and inside yourself.  Hunting and fishing connects us to this experience.  Preparing and eating wild food reminds us of this experience each meal.  Perspectives shift when we remove layers of disconnection with the world around us.

My mission is….

to live out deep, honest, wild, and authentic experiences and to share them through the written word. I fully believe that God made us to love. I want to open the door for us see the wild world in more beautiful way, and thus bring us closer to how He made us to be. I want everyone to go through life excited for the adventure, more capable for the journey, and open to the unbeaten path. I want you to pursue the wild- whatever is left, wherever you are- and to come back with a story to tell.
